Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is the sequel to the groundbreaking Metal Gear Solid. It was released in 2001 for the Playstation 2 and was a huge success, shipping more than 7 million units worldwide.


In the game you play as a new character, named Raiden. He is sent to an offshore oil cleanup facility to rescue the President of The United States from a group of Terrorists called "Dead Cell." Along the way he'll meet and team up with Solid Snake and go head to head with multiples versions of a new protype Metal Gear.

The game explores complex themes like Memes, Artifical Intelligence and Totalitarianism.

New additions to the gameplay have been inculded. You can now aim in first person mode, allowing for precision shooting never before seen in a Metal Gear game. Players can now fire from the safety of cover and hang off rails to avoid dectection. The enemy AI is much improved, they now work in squads, clear rooms together and are in constant radio contact.


The game was an outstanding critical success. It received a Metacritc score of 96. Critics praised the brilliant visuals, movie like cutscenes and gameplay freedom Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty offers.
